Peninsula Papagayo is the exclusive tip of this coast, home to a handful of top-end resorts and residences wrapped around Culebra Bay. The draw for a visitor based in Flamingo is the water: the bay is among the most sheltered on the Pacific side, which makes for glassy paddling, swimming, and snorkeling mornings.
Unless you are staying or dining at one of the resorts, the practical way to experience Papagayo is by boat: snorkel and sail itineraries out of the Coco and Playa Hermosa side work the peninsula’s coves. Marina Papagayo and the beach clubs are worth it when you have a reservation; this is not a wander-in kind of place.
